Imagine that.. He hired people that knew the source material.

You told me something in this video that I had no idea about. Frazetta himself animating that crocodile creature in the swamp. If he had truly never animated anything in his life, that is astonishing because the animation was astonishingly well accomplished.

Some friends wanted to have an all night gaming night in late '87.
We had 3 TVs, but only two consoles, so we went to a video rental just before they closed.
I convinced them to get Wizards and Fire and Ice.
We ate pizza, played games, and had the movies running at the same time.
I had wanted to see both movies but had been unable to do so previously, that I gave up my turns to play so I could enjoy them.
For a dozen boys between 16 and 19, those movies made such an impression upon us.
It was such a great night.
I knew that Frank Frezetta had been associated with Fire and Ice, but I didn't know that he was an animator as well.
Cool video.
Thanks.

As a collector of Heavy Metal magazine, seeing Frazetta's work being animated was awesome

Great movie and adaptation. 1000 times better than anything Disney did on the last 30 years.

I alway thought Lord Nekron looked to be somewhat modeled on Michael Moorcock's 'Elric of Melniboné'. I used to love all this stuff. My bedroom walls were covered with the works of artists like Frazzetta and Vallejo.

I remember watching this on VHS at the end of 1989 with some friends when I was home from college for the holidays. We were seriously mentally altered. We were at the home of another friend who let us hang out there while his dad was out of town and he was at work checking credit card numbers at night for a bank. We had one tape- "Fire and Ice"- so we watched it six or seven times in a row. There was a blizzard happening outside. We also kept feeding more wood into a fireplace in the living room where the TV was with all the other lights out. We also kept calling our friend whose home it was and who was working at the bank- and since he was bored and/or didn't have caller ID, he kept answering the phone at work. At some point, he told us that we had just invaded Panama. We thought he was messing with us since he knew in what condition we were, so we started joking about being at war with Panama while thinking that it was too absurd to be true.

As it got to be about 4 or 5 in the morning, we realized that we could start the hot tub that was on out the porch and still watch the TV through big glass doors. We stripped down to our underwear, ran across the porch through the snow and jumped into the hot tub where a zone of heat turned the snow into a fine mist. We watched the movie through the glass about two times without sound and joked about weird it would be to imagine that we at war. One guy there said that his brother was a marine and would have told him about it. As the sun came up, we switched the TV over to the news and I saw Colin Powell for the first time. He was giving a news conference about the invasion of Panama.

Saw it in the theater when it first came out, and love it then, love it now.
