  About transformer windings: they're usually not copper-plated or even copper clad. The color is just the lacquer/coating. I work at a scrapyard and end up having to tell about 2 people every day that the dishwasher/dryer/washer/welder transformer that they painstakingly took apart is actually aluminum and worth about 60¢/lbs.

  When replacing MOVs the only important thing to consider is make sure you get the thermally protected MOVs, which have a small fuse inside to prevent them from outright shorting out and causing a fire in a failure.

  Glad this video was recommended. I never realized how few UPS batteries are truly &quot;special&quot;. One of mine on an APC died and after seeing this, I realized APC likely bought the ones I found on Amazon without markings and slapped their stickers on it with a center bracket. $45 and maybe 2mins unhooking the terminals vs. $130 is a hell of a savings.

  I have an APC old enough to have kids in college. It sits on a bakers rack and I extended the leads down to 4 golf cart batteries under it. It has run my home lab for half a day during a long outage. I&apos;ve stress tested it and stopped at 2 days LOL. I don&apos;t know it&apos;s date of manufacture, but it was old when I got it in the late 1900&apos;s LOL She &apos;s old, but she just keeps on trucking.
