  Like most characters on the show, Gorst is such a realistic and human villain. When he&apos;s introduced, he seems similar to Syril, a meek and inoffensive character who takes pride in his work and seems naive as to what the empire&apos;s true nature is. However, as soon as Dedra leaves, his true nature starts to be revealed. He still has this childlike wonder and fascination regarding his instruments and the wider galaxy it seems, but at the same time he sees absolutely nothing wrong with the genocide of an entire species, and more than that, is happy to use their final death screams to build an instrument of torture. He doesn&apos;t seem to revel in her torture though, just isn&apos;t particularly squeamish about it. You get the feeling that he used to develop and use more physically-damaging torture tools, but found that it would often be overused and lead to the subject dying too quickly, while this new one keeps the victim perfectly healthy and able to cooperate quickly, regardless of the mental shattering that the screams bring.<br><br>In the second season, I think Bix&apos;s dreams make him out to be far more sinister and evil than he actually was. When he sees her again, he&apos;s not begging or pleading, he&apos;s simply confused, like it never registered to him that the people he tortured would harbour any residual trauma or hatred towards him as a result. I think he simply saw torture as another part of his job, a job that enabled him to use his curiousity untethered by moral qualms. A real testament to the banality of evil.

  Im glad they didnt try to make us hear anything. But the idea of a species&apos; death scream is pretty awful in itself.

  I love how he dosen&apos;t reconise exactly who Bix its such a small detail but it implies he has tortured so many people he can&apos;t remeber Bix anymore.

  The way he starts off by saying the teathers and restraints are nothing to fear and that his methods arent overtly physical gives you that pitch in the stomach.
