  When I was 15 in 1996 I met a girl in an AOL chat room and we met for a date. We weren't compatible, but we were both real teenagers who were exactly who we said we were and had proper intentions. It was a damn miracle.

  A guy on reddit once offered to pay a month of rent for my family. $1300 CAD.<br><br>Everyone told me it was a scam. But.. no. No scam. Dude legitimately sent $1300 CAD from Australia via bank transfer. The transaction went through. It was an incredible help for us, as we were struggling and falling behind. <br><br>I was just like &quot;Well, I have nothing they could possibly steal and credit too bad to take a $2 loan, what are they gonna scam me out of?&quot;

  My grandmother nearly got scammed and sometimes you have to escalate things. The scammer basically threatened her with a time limit or her bank account would close. She kept trying to go along with it despite my protests until i physically wrenched her tablet out of her hands and kept it until the next day when the &quot;time limit&quot; would have expired. I looked like a jerk at the time but she realised i was right once nothing happened. Watch out fir your elders and sometimes you might have to make them listen

  My brother scammed my grandmother out of her last 10k she had to her name. He called and begged her to send bail money to him, that “he’s in real deep trouble,” and shit. He was part of a much larger scam the FBI had been hunting. That was maybe 5-7 years ago? Now the FBI has reopened the case, and sweet Karma is heading his way because he was dumb enough to not use a burner phone

  Skimmers are super easy for scammers to quickly place on payment areas without people noticing unless you specifically watch the cams at that time, they are usually accompanied by another person to be a distraction while they apply the skimmer. We are taught at convenience stores to do skimmer checks mostly by giving the plastic card parts a good tug and to look for off looking keypads, and checking for cameras over the keypads
