I love the careful distinction between "conserved" and "worked on." 😂

Me before varnish removal: its fruit in a gold bowl on a wooden table against a dark wall
Me after varnish removal: its fruit in a silver bowl on a marble topped cabinet against a light wall

Old varnish really does change the way you view the painting haha

The very dark, old varnish on this painting reminds me of an impasto-heavy landscape painting my grandmother had in her guest bedroom. I had always wondered why a painter would choose such ugly browns and yellows for a lake scene! This channel has made me wish I had known at the time that paintings COULD be cleaned, that the original colors could be restored! But, this channel has ALSO taught me that DOING said cleaning is not a job for amateurs 😅
