You donβt βtakeβ sickdays, youβre just ill and need days off to recover. How can you even limit the number of sickdays that are βallowedβ?

In Sweden, for example, if you get sick on vacation, you take sick days instead and can save your vacation days.

As regarding workers 'rights Europe is centuries ahead of the US... I don't know how Americans can think they are a modern, democratic country!!

I believe Europeans are more efficient. Not only that they are rested, but they have their social needs met by being with friends and family, so they don't need to chit-chat. They focus on the task and work concentrated.

In France, the right to disconnect (droit Γ la dΓ©connexion) is defined as follows: it refers to the employee's ability to avoid being contacted and not having to connect to work-related tools (emails, phone, work messaging, etc.) outside of the working hours specified in their contract. This includes evenings, weekends, and vacation periods.<br>The right to disconnect protects employees in three key ways:<br>1οΈβ£ It respects the employee's private and family life, and their quality of life.<br>2οΈβ£ It guarantees their rest time.<br>3οΈβ£ It protects employees' health.<br>In practice, the concept of the right to disconnect has existed legally for a long time. However, it was the law of August 8, 2016, that officially incorporated it into the French Labor Code (Code du Travail) under article L. 2242-17, 7Β°.

An American businessman can buy the company, or a boss from America can come, it doesn't matter, he always MUST follow the laws. Otherwise it's illegal and you can take it to court if he doesn't follow, for example, 4 weeks of vacation, health insurance, etc. Which is normal in Europe. He will pay a huge fine and close the company. Even the European McDonald's must comply with the same conditions for employees.

In Denmark and in Europe in general I would think. Are we not lazy, we work according to the principle "work smarter, not harder". For example. when a cashier sits on an office chair, it is not laziness, but because you know that it is good for their physical health and therefore have fewer work-related injuries and thus fewer sick days, and they are happier. Therefore they are also a more motivated and efficient employee. That is the whole idea behind the work smarter not harder principle.

I used to work in a store as student, here in Poland, yes if we were sick our employer would encourage as to go to the doctor's office and take sick leave, she explained very easily: I loose 1 person on few shifts, if they stay, I am risking more staff will get sick (this was before COVID, simple cold or flu). So yeah even by simple math it doesn't make sense to keep a sick person at work, they are not efficient and they may spread viruses to others.

The EU Working Time Directive, makes it illegal for any company to FORCE you to work more than 48 hours per week. You can however, work as long as you want, voluntarily.

It was crystal clear to me. Spending more hours on the job doesn't necessarily mean working longer. Just because you make sure not to leave work until <b>after</b> your boss has left (for appearances), for example.
