Annie you were a true true friend to Danny especially when he needed a caring friend the most you opened your home to him & cared for him till the end. He may have lost his fortune but no amount of money could buy a friendship like that.

I loved Danny he was always so elegant whether in drag or as himself such a shame those shysters robbed him I hope karma got them

I was a child invited up on stage at the London Palladium when Danny was starring in a Christmas pantomime in the late 60s. <br>For a 7 or 8 year old, this was both daunting, and incredibly exciting. He was so kind, put me at my ease, gave me a hug, and it’s an experience I’ve cherished all these years. What a wonderful human being!

In 1978 Danny and Michael Aspell were judges on the talent show New Faces when I was on; Danny was very complimentary and gave me high points that took my score way above the norm; I turned that into a showbiz career spanning 45 years, only just recently retiring, I thank them both for giving me that leg up the ladder.

I met Danny La Rue only once, in the late 1990s, in what was to be the last decade of his life. I was a journalist at the time, but I'd been tasked to visit a Hotelier of a gay hotel and sauna in order to pick up an overdue advertising cheque. The proprietor wouldn't allow me to talk business, instead insisting that there was first somebody I just had to meet. It was Danny. The inevitable champagne was ordered and we sat in to chat. He was utterly charming, generous, full of anecdotes and tales of his early days in theatre and his later huge success on television. Several times, (I think I had a show to review that evening) I mentioned that I should really push off, but he wouldn't hear of it. "You'll stay for one more drink, I insist..." <br><br> I think we got through three bottles before I stumbled unsteadily off into the night, all thoughts of reviewing the show now impossible. (I never got the cheque from the Hotelier either! Well, it seemed rather rude to talk business in front of Danny!) I wonder was that the plan from the start?<br><br><br> xx SF

Saw Danny appearing at a local club with Jim Davidson in Torquay back in the 80s, a week later I spotted Danny walking down a street with his beloved dog in London I stopped to chat about seeing him in Torquay, and he was quite happy to chat briefly. Lovely man
