I’m Russian. Once I had an Egyptian girlfriend, and we agreed to challenge ourselves with this song - she sings and I play it with oud. We broke up eventually 😂 idk about her but I learned it and still enjoy playing this song with oud, sometimes turnin on this video on the background 🎉

imagine the media women who claim to be singers watching her actually sing live for 30 minutes nonstop and still dressed elegantly with a beautiful band playing like a painting and drawing gasps and praise from the audience and she sings and still smiles sweetly without having to pose or make faces
talent is the word.
💖

Even if you don’t understand a single word of Arabic, this performance carries you straight into the soul of the song. “Ragaouni Ainik” is not just music — it is longing, passion, and tenderness woven into sound. The way Mai Farouk pours emotion into every note, and how the orchestra under Michel Ibrahim embraces her voice, creates a dialogue of love and memory that goes beyond language itself.

Part of the reason people feel goosebumps or strange emotions is because Arabic music comes with the weight of history, place, and time. It feels like traveling back hundreds of years, passing through layers of civilization and culture: temples and palaces, deserts and valleys, religions and myths, poetry and literature. This music is powerful and deep, and that is why a listener from a completely different geography or culture can still feel as if they are lying on top of a mountain on a cold winter night, with the stars shining brightly above.

This is the timeless gift of Umm Kulthum’s legacy: music that does not just reach your ears, but goes directly to your heart — no translation needed.
