The Funerailles sent a chill up my spine when the octaves began to thunder across Carnegie Hall. How thrilling!!

Fabulous with all this Horowitz recitals from 1945 to 1987 . Thank you so much. How fascinating to follow the evolution of this great artist nearly recital after recital over more than 40 years.

The Barber pieces are astonishing, and the very first phrase of the opening work, the Czerny, is almost unreal in its perfect, Horowitzian singing elegance and expressivity. If you had decided to go home after that one phrase, it still would have been worth whatever was the ticket price, and taking the trouble to go out. I didn't listen to everything, but the Chopin Mazurkas are, as usual, very special under VH's hands. He adds a couple of half measures in the Liszt Funerailles, at the beginning of the left hand staccato triplets, and again in the last line, and drops a measure in the heroic statement of the main theme in octaves near the end, probably by mistake, but these are trivial in such a huge program, so stupendously and explosively played.

Who says he was nervous?? This was great to hear. The Stars and Stripes displays incredible ingenuity, virtuosity and sheer joy in the total matter of the instrument. And it is even more complicated than his other recorded performances of it. The Czerny and Rachmaninoff were also spectacular. A great find!

Legendary recital indeed. And not nervous at all. Just full of confidence that is rightly deserved.

What a wonderful document to have. And I love the fact that, in the Waldstein last movement, instead of doing the octaves as glissandi (as written), he plays them individually (because he COULD at such speed!!!)

He made the Czerny sound like a masterpiece 😊I cannot imagine anyone playing it so masterfully, then...and today!

Just absolutely amazing. Thanks a million for posting this incredible recital. What it must have been like to have been present there. The world is a better place for Horowitz having been with us for 86 years
