Lads I love Saka, my favourite Arsenal player ever, but this is a longer issue than 3 games? It’s been 18 months with a few great performances in there. He’s been nowhere near his level pre injury

If we'd had this performance last season, I would be livid. Today I'm just hugely, severely disappointed because this was close to our strongest lineup and we stunk up the place. We had performances last season where the technical level of the entire team dropped precipitously just like today but at least in those performances we managed to compete physically and remain defensively tough. Today, not so much. And the most disappointing aspect of the game was that in a team full of prime age, EPL and cup champions, we never looked like being able to stop the rot. I can only hope, and the team probably deserve the benefit of the doubt at this point, that this was a one off. Meanwhile, the players have three weeks to stew in their embarrassment, disappointment, and indeed anger at that abject collective performance.

George is never going to change his mind on Saka. It is what it is. Saka is a good player, who now has very good games sometimes. That’s it. At one point, a few seasons ago he was a world class player who people were arguing was the best RW in the world. He doesn’t get into any other of the top 5 teams in Europe. He looks burnt out and I don’t think he’ll ever get back to the level he showed before…. And I don’t think he is worth being our highest paid player.

It feels like you’re completely missing the context of the Saka criticism. We are not criticizing his finishing these last few games only… we are criticizing his last 16 months. He has been mediocre for over a year, our starboy and highest payed player has not been good enough for OVER a year. Him finishing his chances this season would just be putting lipstick on a pig. His overall play has not been good enough, and if you think it has due to stats telling you he’s “creating chances” then we have different standards for our franchise player. He looks stiffer, not as athletic, more inconsistent technically, finishing has been off for more than a year, not just 5 games this season. And worst of all, his decision making is so bad right now. Missing easy switches on counters, bad decision making on the counter that he then later missed a sitter that resulted in a conceded goal. Alex, Saka had been poor for more than a season, and after 1 ok performance where he scored against Villa you were running victory laps implying that the Saka criticism suddenly should disappear. Arteta said himself Saka wasn’t at his level last year, so you saying “his finishing will improve, trust me. Let’s make a bet” is completely missing what the actual criticism is about.

Brighton knew… 1) if they played an open game and kept the ball on the ground, we wouldn’t have the quality in transition to hurt them. 2) that we would happily sit in to defend, so they shot from distance when those spaces opened up and punished our negative tactics. 3) We struggle with a high press, especially without Saliba.

Arteta has to adapt better. Because Hürzeler just showed everyone how to beat us. Not every team will be able to execute it as well as Brighton of course, but the blueprint is there.

On our forwards… wow! Our attack is pants. Saka hasn’t been the same since the injuries. Tzolis is decent, but not spectacular. Noni is a terrible finisher. Eze is capable of magic moments, but is massively inconsistent. And BOTH Havertz and Gyokeres are POOR! Neither of these average players should be at our club. Gyokeres can score goals, but overall is poor technically. And Havertz does the same thing all the time. Every 9 or 10 games is an identical pattern. He’ll have 1 or 2 great games, 2 or 3 average games and 3 or 4 horrendous games. Three seasons at Chelsea, now in his fourth season at Arsenal, Havertz been the same average player the whole time and we’ve still got fans making excuses for him. Nearly any striker playing in LaLiga would do better for us than these 2 bums. Bin both Gyokeres and Havertz this summer regardless of what we win or don’t win.

the saka take is wrong. it is not 3 games and you know this alex. people always talk about saka’s poor performances because we know his level. and he hasn’t been at that level for a year and a half.

Glad you guys recognized that this was a game for Miles not Merino. I was also massively disappointed by how we lay down. Brighton was barging into our backs and no one even got angry and started leaving some bruises on the opposition.

Arteta messed up by fearing Brighton from minute 1. This showed when Odegarde was the lone presser. This fear cascaded to all the players, especially Guimaraes and Rice, and even Raya. It's better we played our normal game and still lose like this, than this cowardly manner!

After watching Bruno today I’ll stick to MLS, especially when playing the premier leagues 3 Bs. The team needed a reality check and that’s what we got today. We take the 3 weeks off and return to go again.
