  Oakland Raiders were formed in the AFL to replace the Minnesota franchise that decided to go to NFL.

  They WON over Chicago to start the 1961 season, in Minn.  Only 32,000 showed up.  Ironically, they played the Cowboys in Dallas for their second game.  Merely 20,500 were in attendance at the Cotton Bowl for that game.

  Growing up in Ohio my favorite football player was Fran Tarkington. He was too short and too slightly built to be an NFL QB. But he could scramble forever, then launch a 70 yard bomb with pinpoint accuracy. If that didn't work, he would charge down field like a fullback. Dude was nuts, but unbelievable to watch.

  Word to the wise, Fran Tarkenton and the Vikings beat the bear 37-13. Also, Bud Grant was a coach in the Canadian league but he was not Canadian. He was born in Superior Wisconsin

  Vikings began the year I was born. I was at the game when everyone was booing tarkenton off the field. Backup came in to start 2nd half threw a pic and then everybody chanting to bring back tarkenton. Never happy lol

  Met Stadium was built specifically to draw MLB, not the NFL. It was a baseball forward facility. It was always a questionable football facility.

  Metropolitan Stadium was built to lure a Major League baseball franchise to Minnesota. The briefly flirted with the New York Giants (NL), and the owners, Horace Stoneman even bought land in Golden Valley for a ballpark. Eventually, the Washington Senators relocated to The Met. Around that same time, the NFL awarded a franchise to Minnesota.
