Ex RAF 79 to 88, I knew two airmen I served with, strong bully types, always on jankers,, where sent to one of those camps, upon return they where 100% different people, one got discharged for theft in the end, the second guy, I spent 12 months working with him, it was such a pleasure, and he said, never, ever, does he ever want to there again, so from what I am watching, this program is tamed down for TV.

Most of these types end up back behind bars because they never learn to take accountability.

The guy that evaded capture and detection for 17 years needs to be teaching SERE to the rest of the military. Outstanding performance for the wrong reason.

I was stationed for 4 years, as Infantry Staff, at the Canadian Military Detention Barracks and Prison, in Edmonton in the 80's! That was a place back then, one you would not want to go back too! No talking, no smoking, even during regular meals, everything regulated and structured, you can't shit or piss without asking Permission first! Single cells, steel bunk cemented into the wall and Two gray wool blankets! Once that cell door closed at 9 PM, they had s steel bucket for the toilet. Cold as fuck in the winter, and you could scrape the frost off the wall in the CC Cells! They still used Punishment Diet's. PD 1 or PD 2. PD 1. Bread, water and 1 oz of lard. PD 2, was 2 oz of peas, porridge, 1 oz of lard and water. Not much of a return rate! No idea what it's like today! I had many friends pass through, I always took them aside and said, our friendship is on hold, but no one will fuck you around just for being here, if they do let me know! Had beers with a few in later days, and no hard feelings.
