In 2004, the R143 was tested with Siemens propulsion that would later be modified to the propulsion on the R160Bs.

Actually, It was the 1925 BMT D Types were the very first OPEN GANGWAY cars which were three cars mounted on four trucks. Each 3 car unit was 135 ft long, and weight around 213,000 pounds per unit as well. These 1925 D types were retired, when brand new R32's were delivered and placed in service during 1964 and 1965 time frame.

Fun fact Bombardier had manufactured a larger R110B fleet that never left the plant and were completely rebuilt using spare parts from unbuilt cars to build Bostons Red line #3 cars which still run today.

I live right down the road from the museum where the state of the art cars are held! I go there quite a bit and it’s pretty sad to see them sitting there rotting away…

Little known fact I love to share is that the NYTM’s Q car, the interior fans were taken from the Zephyr! While we don’t have any surviving cars, we do have recycled parts that still exist

Fun fact:R110A cars number 8001 and 8005 came back as P8001 P8005 and now link with P8002-P8004 and are now pump cars
