  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxVZsd7Ms70&amp;t=220">3:40</a> Options are designed to be traded WITH other positions not &quot;naked&quot; (without another position to cover losses).<br><br>So with a call, you either sell the stock you have and buy the call in that amount (translating the position to feed up equity for other uses) or, more commonly, sell the stock short betting the price will go down. that way you have a position where you can still be short the stock, but if the price goes above the call price then you can&apos;t lose more than the call price plus the premium you paid for the insurance. <br><br>The put option is the same but from the other side (you buy the stock and it acts as a floor for his much you can lose. <br><br>There&apos;s other mixes that get more complex but that&apos;s why options are not supposed to be allowed for trading unless you have several years of investment experience. If you use them right they can turn high risk high reward plays into fixed risk high reward plays; if you get it wrong you&apos;ll lose everything in minutes.

The stop loss will execute at the next trading price that that order hits in the queue, so if the stock is moving you&apos;ll get soaked with a price hundreds or thousands of people in the queue later than the trigger point and it can crush you.<br><br>Buying the call options means that you can exercise them to close at a known and fixed maximum loss. Which is what you want to do with any sort position...
