  I was 7yrs old,in a hospital bed eating vanilla ice cream and drinking 7-up after a tonsillectomy when Mazeroski hit the home run..black n white hospital room tv mounted high ..marks my life

  Of those Pirates that played in all 7 games, Maz lead the team in batting, hitting .320 (Clemente was second with a .310 batting average). &nbsp;But despite having a solid World Series and his Game 7 heroics, the MVP award went to Bobby Richardson of the Yankees. Only time a player from a losing team was named MVP.

  Everyone has their favorite team, but as a kid growing up in the 50&apos;s, I was tired of the NY Yankees winning World Series after World Series. &nbsp;My mom and grandmother were from Pittsburgh, and I was was so glad that the Pittsburgh Pirates won. &nbsp;<br> &nbsp; &nbsp; However, the Yankees pitcher who threw the home run pitch was devastated, and struggled with the loss. &nbsp;He found himself in a similar situation against the San Francisco Giants two years later. &nbsp;What could have been a game winning hit was a line drive, but it went straight to my favorite NY Yankees player, Bobby Richardson, who caught it to end the game and the NY Yankees won. &nbsp;While I was cheering at the time for the Giants to win, I was glad later that the Yankees won after reading about how devastated the Yankees pitcher had become. <br> &nbsp; &nbsp; Also, Mickey Mantle was a class act on the field. &nbsp;He would trot around the bases when he hit a home run with his head down, not displaying any exuberance, realizing that he was having a happy moment at the pitcher&apos;s expense. &nbsp;Today&apos;s players need to stop with the childish histrionics after hitting a home run and take a lesson from the Mick.
