Im concerned that videos like this are sending out a message that people with chronic back pain somehow are not doing everything they should to alleviate it. What about the 5%.? How do we know if we are or are not one of the 5% if the NHS are insisting that scans don't work? Its super to see all these people on the road to recovery buy how did they do it?Ive seen numerous therapist who go on about a holistic approach all the while I am in agony.I have always been active and an avid gym goer. This pain is not imaginary!

I have watched your video with interest but having struggled with back pain since 1997 (initially after a fall through floorboards then in 2010 after a traffic accident ). It took me six months the first time & five months the second time to brave going back out into the world and then returning to work. But back I went & I got on with my life, declining the surgery that I was told would be the ‘only’ thing that could help me. I dealt with the pain in a range of different ways, I went to stress management & relaxation counsellor, I went to an osteopath and a Chinese acupuncturist to aid my recovery (I’m a mother of four, worked full time, attended college part time so how could I just give up!) the pain has never left me. It goes through times when it is excruciating and some times not as bad but I can honestly tell you that it has ‘never’ left me.
Part of my studies have be in psychology & I have a diploma in counselling. I have studied theories of pain for many years, the pain response, Somatosensory Cortex, Allodynia, Hyperalgesia etc, etc. I wish there were an answer that fitted everyone but I feel I actually know, from my own experience that ‘there isn’t’!
I’m not sorry that I have carried on living my life and doing things I want to do. I am a Grandmother to 9 who range in age from 25 to 4 years so, needless to say, my life has been a full one, just never without pain!

Peter your work is amazing, if only doctors approached back pain as you do.

Western society has gone so far down the rabbit hole attempting to "Fix" spinal pain, how we need the light of reality/truth back on the table...well done to Prof POS and all those voices strong enough to start telling the real story

Great interview! Prof O'Sullivan really hits the current problems why a lot of people don't recover from there back problems. Not only from a patiënt perspective but also how we as practioners must be carefull what we fuel our patiënts!
