When traveling , never tell anyone that you're alone. That is a safety hazard

Every holiday, if we get together, whoever hosts at their home makes food assignments for every family that's attending. Everyone is expected to help with the clean up. Clearly stating boundaries and expectations keeps everyone happy!

This was me. Pay for it, cook it, and clean it up. They would come in like they were at a restaurant. Took all the seating. I ate standing at the counter. Then they left. Not anymore. Reminded them I was 65 and on disability and couldn't do it anymore. Now they do their own thing and don't try to include me. No one can be bothered for 10 minutes to pick me up or take me home.

Daughter made a huge assumption about her senior mother. Daughter should have had family reunion catered. Mother hit the road, no longer a doormat who cooks. She puts herself first once in her life after marriage.

I don't remember raising my kids to be entitled--far from wealthy--no privileged lives--and there are very few parents that have overcome the entitlements deeply imbedded in the American psyche...We are now in the 3rd-GEN of "it's all about me, my self-esteem, my self worth, my rights"--everybody gets a blue ribbon--every student gets an "A" and saddle the next school with the learning deficiencies--societally we are stuck with this mess--BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS: WE CAN SET BOUNDARIES--AND WE CAN SET BOUNDARIES BEFORE WE HAVE NOTHING LEFT TO GIVE...Let's just hope that those who need to hear this the most will get the message.

The poppies are amazing - one of the most beautiful images I have seen. We went to California and just missed them back in 1981. Now I see them.

My family always bring food to share … I’m abolished from the kitchen while my girls and dil put everything together and afterwards do the cleaning up. I am blessed.

When we retire we should live our own life, travel, socialize with peers, read, activities... we have two different worlds when our children get married.

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful decision to set yourself FREE! I have friends that are tangled up with their grandchildren, at first I used to get upset at them until I realised it was useless because they've freely decided that is what makes them happy. Not all of them are into it 24/7 though, those go around with their friends to different restaurants, movies, and even for a nice night show to enjoy a Tango Dance on stage. Even the friends enjoying their grand kids break away every now and then 😅😅😅. They do enjoy their grandkids events too. Whether a game or a ballet on stage. We have a group and when it's somebody's birthday the birthday person(s) choose a restaurant. Everyone pays their own meal, refreshment or wine, but we each give the celebrated friend(s) a gift and sing the Happy B-Day song. We've been doing it for years, that takes away the cooking and clean-up burdens. We very scarcely do home gatherings, but when we do it's because we have a larger crowd where we won't fit at a table, without it being something really special. For some home gatherings everyone brings some dish, home made or from a store.<br>But like I said before, those home gatherings are scarce. Some of us travel abroad once in a while to see other cultures "live".
