If Betty`s version of what happened to her boyfriend is true in that it was in self defence, then what she should have done( like most people would do) is call the police and deal with the consequences. She was greedy, manipulative,  calculating ,scheming and cruel. She had a criminal history and was out to get what she could at any cost. No one should trust anyone they have only just met to go live with. Get to know the family and friends first. There are mostly good people in this world, but there are also some really horrible and cruel greedy people too. Get to know the person`s family/friends first before setting up home together.
