Akki next part this story named as the room no. 13
The house stood at the end of a narrow road about two kilometres outside the village. It was a large, two-storey building with faded yellow walls, broken windows and a rusted iron gate covered in vines. Nobody had lived there for many years. The villagers called it the Silent House because the place seemed strangely quiet even when everything around it was noisy. There were many stories about the house, but nobody knew which ones were true. The most common story was that a family had disappeared from the house in 1998. Thirteen-year-old Rekchoy had heard the story many times, but he never believed it. He thought people had simply created scary stories because the house had been abandoned for so long.

One Saturday afternoon, Rekchoy was cycling with his friends Kabir and Dev when Kabir suggested that they visit the house. Dev immediately refused because his grandfather had warned him never to go there. Rekchoy laughed and said there was probably nothing inside except dust, insects and old furniture. After some convincing, the three boys decided to go. They cycled along the narrow road until they reached the rusty gate. The gate was partly open, so they left their bicycles outside and walked toward the house. The front door was also unlocked. When they entered, they found a large entrance hall covered in dust. Old furniture stood against the walls, and several damaged photographs hung from the wall. Everything looked as though nobody had touched it for decades.

While they were looking around, Rekchoy noticed an old family photograph. It showed a man, a woman and a young boy standing in front of the house. The boy's face had been badly scratched, making it impossible to see him clearly. Underneath the photograph was a date: September 11, 1998. Dev wondered if the family in the photograph was the same family that had disappeared. Rekchoy was about to answer when they heard a loud noise upstairs. It sounded like something heavy had fallen. The boys looked at one another. Kabir suggested that they investigate, while Dev wanted to leave immediately. Rekchoy decided to go upstairs.

At the top of the staircase was a long corridor with three doors. Two of the doors looked ordinary, but the third was different. It had no handle, and someone had painted the words “DO NOT OPEN” across it. Kabir laughed and said that somebody had probably written the warning to frighten visitors. He knocked twice on the door. Nothing happened. He raised his hand to knock a third time, but Rekchoy stopped him. Before either of them could say anything, a faint sound came from behind the door. It sounded like something small had fallen onto the floor. The boys stood completely still and listened. Nothing happened again. Dev whispered that they should leave, and this time the others agreed.

They hurried downstairs and left the house before sunset. That evening, Kabir sent Rekchoy a photograph he had taken of the upstairs corridor. When Rekchoy zoomed in, he noticed something that none of them had seen earlier. Above the strange door was a small metal plate covered in dust. The number on it was 13. Rekchoy stared at the photograph for a long time. He remembered that there were supposed to be only twelve rooms in the house. He wondered why a thirteenth room existed.

The next morning, the boys visited Dev's grandfather and told him everything. The old man became unusually quiet when he heard about Room 13. He explained that he had known the Varen family who had once lived there. According to the old records, the house originally had twelve rooms. There had never officially been a Room 13. After the family disappeared in 1998, villagers searched the house but found nothing unusual. A few days later, however, someone noticed a strange door upstairs. The old man said that nobody knew when it had appeared. He also told them that the family had a young son named Rekchoy. The boys looked at their friend in surprise. Rekchoy thought it was just a strange coincidence.

That afternoon, the three boys returned to the house. They wanted to prove that there was a simple explanation. They entered the building and went upstairs. The strange door was still there. This time, Rekchoy noticed that the wood around the door looked newer than the rest of the hallway. He touched it and heard a faint hollow sound. Kabir examined the wall beside it and discovered that one of the wooden panels was loose. Behind the panel were several electrical wires and a narrow empty space. They began to suspect that someone might have secretly modified the house.

Suddenly, they heard footsteps downstairs. The boys stopped talking. The footsteps moved slowly across the entrance hall. Someone was inside the house. Rekchoy switched off his flashlight, and the three boys stood silently in the dark. The footsteps stopped. Then they heard a door close. Dev whispered that they should leave immediately. They ran downstairs and rushed through the front door. As Rekchoy reached the gate, he looked back at the house. For a moment, he thought he saw a person standing behind one of the upstairs windows. It looked like a young boy. Before Rekchoy could look again, the figure had disappeared.

When Rekchoy told his father what had happened, his father did not laugh. Instead, he said that there might be a logical explanation. Perhaps somebody had been secretly using the abandoned house. The next morning, the village headman went to the house with several adults. They searched every room carefully and eventually opened the strange door with the help of a locksmith. Behind it was a small storage room. Inside were blankets, empty food packets, a battery-powered radio and several objects that clearly had not been left there decades ago. Someone had been living inside the abandoned house.

The police were called and began investigating. They discovered fresh footprints in the dust and found a notebook hidden underneath an old wooden box. The notebook contained dates and observations about people in the village. One page contained Rekchoy's name. Beside his name was a note describing the day he had visited the house. This frightened everyone because it meant that whoever had been living there had been watching the boys.

The police eventually discovered that a former caretaker of the property had been secretly using the house. He had lost his job many years earlier and had been sleeping there without anyone knowing. The police suspected that he had been watching people in the village because he was involved in several thefts. He was taken into custody, and the house was sealed. The mysterious footsteps now had an explanation, and the figure Rekchoy had seen in the window was probably the caretaker.

However, one mystery remained. Why had the old photograph looked so much like Rekchoy? The police investigated the Varen family and discovered that Rekchoy's family was distantly related to them. The boy in the old photograph really had been named Rekchoy. The resemblance was simply a strange family coincidence. Everyone thought the mystery had finally been solved.

Months passed, and Rekchoy stopped thinking about the Silent House. One rainy evening, while cleaning an old drawer in his bedroom, he found a small metal plate hidden behind it. He picked it up and immediately recognized it. It was the same type of plate that had been attached above Room 13. The number stamped on it was 13. Rekchoy turned it over and noticed something scratched into the back. It was a date: September 11, 1998.

He showed the plate to his father, who immediately became serious. Nobody knew how it had ended up inside their house. They checked the old photographs, cupboards and boxes, but they couldn't find any explanation. Rekchoy decided that perhaps the plate had been brought home accidentally when they had visited the abandoned house, although he couldn't remember touching it.

Several weeks later, the police returned to the Silent House to remove some old materials. One officer mentioned something that made Rekchoy uncomfortable. During their original search, they had found two sets of footprints in the dust inside Room 13. One set clearly belonged to the former caretaker. The other appeared to have been made by a child. The strange part was that the second set of footprints ended in front of a solid wall. There was no hidden door, tunnel or opening behind it.

The police assumed the footprints were old and probably belonged to someone who had entered the room years earlier. They never discovered who had made them. The house was eventually demolished, and the land was left empty.

Even years later, Rekchoy sometimes remembered that place. He knew there had been a logical explanation for most of what happened: someone had been secretly living in the house, the old family story had been misunderstood, and the strange room had probably been created by someone after the house was abandoned. Yet one thing continued to bother him.

On the final night before the house was demolished, Rekchoy had stood outside the gate and looked toward the upstairs window. The building was completely empty, and the police had confirmed that nobody was inside. Yet just before he left, he saw a small shadow move behind the glass.

He blinked.

The window was empty.

Then, from somewhere inside the abandoned house, he heard three quiet knocks.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

Rekchoy never went back to find out what made them.
