Whistler is the 6th Ann Patchett novel I've read. I can't get enough of the worlds she creates. What astounds me is how different each is and how knowledgeable she is on so many subjects. Despite the context in which her stories exist, relationships between people she writes, always ring so true. State of Wonder is full of detail on the tropics; Bel Canto is an education on opera; Commonwealth explores the effects of divorce on family ties; Tom Lake details stagecraft. Nothing is ever fake. Oh how I admire her seemingly simple, but so very eloquent prose. I once fancied myself a writer, but I could never turn a phrase like she can. Ann, your work has brought me hours of pure pleasure. Thank you.

I read this right after reading All the Beauty in the World. Loved this start right back to the Met! Love how people are kind in both books.
