  THE FAMOUS DESK ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT WAS A THING! KINDA. It wasn&apos;t with a desk-gun because why tf would it be and it was in 1944 and not 1940. It was the July 20th plot, to kill Hitler. They stuck a bomb under his desk but because of the location of the bomb and the thickness of the desk, it failed to kill him. It was actually fairly important event in the course of WWII because Erwin Rommel, a fairly senior man in the German military, was involved and ultimately was forced to, shall we say, unsubscribe to Earth via cyanide. He was fairly well regarded in terms of military accomplishments though he had issues with long-term strategy. He had previously led Hitler&apos;s campaigns in North Africa and the loss of Rommel significantly damaged the German war effort. <br><br><br>Fun fact: because he ultimately attempted to assassinate Hitler, he is still celebrated and well-regarded in some parts of Germany
