These photos need to be fullscreen for at least a few seconds so we can actually see the mess. I’m on iPad, I can’t imagine how tiny it looks on a phone.

Make the photos full screen, and your podcast screen in a small corner

I bought a house three years ago, the previous owners “renovated” the house top to bottom. So far I’ve spent north of £50,000 fixing things they’ve done.
- Missing lintel on a load bearing wall.
- Electrics were messed up throughout.
- Every window broken.
- Exterior doors not locking
- Interior doors were trimmed taking out the bottom rail leaving is hollow so you could put your hand inside the door
- Door frames hacked at so they didn’t shut properly.
- Kitchen was so poorly fitted and bodged I had to rip it out and start again.
- they fitted new sockets and left the channelled out cables exposed
- Bathroom extractor, extracted into the loft.
- Bath fitted uneven and just sitting on the feet, not framed or pinned.

A lot of it was hidden by their furniture and I can only come to the conclusion that the surveyor was Stevie Wonder.

23:24 we had a very small apartment type room in our back yard, in 1980 my brother was a sophomore in high school, he wanted to move out and get an apartment, my parents said no, but my dad told him if he wanted to help, we would convert the "rabbit hutch and chicken coup" into a small guest house, and he could "Move out" to the back yard. He agreed, and the work started the next weekend. The bathroom had a toilet and a shower, the kitchen had a sink that was shared as the kitchen and bathroom sink, a microwave, mini fridge and a coffee maker, under the sink there was a 15 gallon water heater, for both the sink and shower. There was space for a very small table 2 chairs and a full size bed.
My brother lived in that room for 3 years, I used it when I was in High school, my grandfather lived in that room for many years... So many people lived in that tiny apartment over the years... Our Japanese foreign exchange student asked if she could move out of the room in the house to the tiny apartment because it made her feel just like she is home in Japan.

3:37 My first house was built around 1920. I was doing some remodeling, and I found an original Colt single action Army pistol stuffed in the wall. It was in the original box, wrapped in a bed sheet, and in beautiful shape.

Opened up the drop ceiling in the kitchen in the house my ex and I had bought. Laying on the inside of the drop ceiling was EIGHT different types of wire, coming together in to a rat's nest of wires. Some had live ends just laying in the ceiling. One switch in the room had no hot wire running to it..but it still worked because it was jumped off another wire in the nest. The 3way switch only had two wires hooked to it. My grandfather rolled in his grave when we saw it all, as he was the head electrical inspector for SW PA for years.

Flatheads found in current homes are always the sign of a previous owner procuring an old screw out of a coffee can or baby jar . . .

First guy thought "what this shower needs is as many grout lines as possible!" I'll use the slimmest tiles I can find!" 🤣

Years ago, when I was viewing homes for purchase, I came across a house where the wallpaper was STAPLED to the wall. There were even (what appeared to be) Roofing nails. --- Also, on another point, a couple years ago, my neighbour was selling his house after a divorce. He paid for new shingles to entice a sale. The new neighbour pointed out that the shingles were ONLY replaced on the front (street-side) of the house.

Talk about money. My wife’s grandparents bought a house (a deceased estate) in 1969. When they pulled up the linoleum in the kitchen as part of a renovation there was a layer of newspaper underneath it from 1967 and underneath that was a layer of money. It was around $32000 which back in those days was a small fortune.

12:10 It is raised because the distance between the holes is too short, notice in 11:36 how the left one is straight up but the right one is bent at a slight angle, without that raise the entire - or portion of the - counter would likely have to be replaced because the hole can't simply be patched and a new hole drilled.
