  Prince has always been a solo artist, he didnt need the revolution, they needed him.  He created the Time and they became massive.   He created Morris Day's persona. He created a lot of things, he had so much music he had to have more artists 2 record it.  He took input from a lot of the musicians he played with but yes he was the producer so he was in control of HIS music.   Some of the band members may have been pissed because they weren't paid as much as they thought they should be.  A lot of that was on Prince's management at the time not the man himself.   Prince gave a lot of control 2 Wendy and Lisa on certain songs when he was in France working on Under the Cherry Moon. And prior 2 that as well.   In fact they were in the studio sending tapes 2 him in France when he was there with some stuff they had worked on, they reworked some of his material.  He valued their opinion, if he didn't then he wouldnt have asked him 2 do that.   Even though some of what they did was never released officially, its still showing you he gave a shit about what his band thought.  Videos like this are click bate and bullshit.  Edit everything together from separate interviews 2 make it sound like Prince was a jerk.  Well, in a sense he was a control freak yes, but he also was a very caring and supporting guy.  He was under tremendous pressure because HE was the artist, the revolution was a backing band just like the NPG.  Although I know he gave Eric Leeds a lot of creative freedom on Sax and Atlanta Bliss on Trumpet.   The producers job is 2 piece all this stuff together which he did.  Just because Wendy got pissed off that Prince broke it off with her sister is irrelevant.  And Wendy can talk a lot, watch recent videos of her and she is still bitter over everything which is stupid.  He made her a star at 19 years old.   And dont get me wrong Wendy and Lisa are very talented, you had 2 b 2 b in Prince's band... but sometimes he wanted 2 go in another direction and play with other people.  It pissed me off that he got rid of the core NPG from 90's right before Emancipation.   But that's how he works.  The new band wasnt as good and there still hasnt been one as good as Sonny T, Michael B, Tommy B and Mr Hayes.    Each era had it own sound and its own backing band.  But ultimately it was always PRINCE who was in control of the music as it should have been because he wrote it.  BTW - Wendy and Lisa shouldnt be bitching too much they did get song writing credits where credit was due specially on Sometimes it Snows in April which they cowrote with him in 1 day.  And other people have gotten song writing credits and production credits where credit was due.

  Prince was a solo artist before he hired them.and when Prince was 18 yrs old he had produced.his first album .so The success of Prince hinged on his ability.to make hit albums.that's why it was named Prince/the Revolution.

  They were a backing band. They didn’t even record the music in the studio initially, it was just Prince in the studio. Cover band in the early days.
