  Cakes used to be a lot more dense, mostly due to baking powder and baking soda being mid 19th century inventions. The leavening agents that existed were not as effective as what we have now.   Of course cupcakes were originally baked in cups! I had never considered this before, but it makes perfect sense that this is how it was done before the manufacture of specialized baking pans. Thank you for bringing history to life!

  Ronnie kills me, every time.... and I really like the set of cups and the matching plate. &nbsp;Very nice. &nbsp;I can think of a dozen uses for them. &nbsp;Every time I start one of these videos and I&apos;m &quot;in&quot; the cabin....I realize just how familiar a place it has become.
