  This leaves out the part, years later, when Audie Murphy was asked why he stayed on the 50 cal for an hour. His response was "They were killing my friends". As a Veteran, respect.

  By the end of the war Murphy earned EVERY SINGLE AWARD FOR VALOR in the US Army and a few from other countries as well

  Audie Murphy was an extraordinary person before he was ever a soldier. His father left his family when his was very young & his mother died when he was in 5th grade, so he quit school to take care of his sisters. As a Texan, I will agree that hard times breed hard people, but I think that Audie having to take care of his family so young gave him a huge desire to take care of his men.

  Audie Murphy was also a pioneer in admitting that he had some really negative mental effects from combat,  what we now know is ptsd.  He felt it imperative that he try to help his brother vets at a time when shame was brought down on vets who said they had nightmares.  Audie was a shining example to vets now and then,  hooah Audie Murphy

  audie Murphy tried to enlist twice and was rejected because of his size, physique, but he persisted and finally got in. read his bio they made a movie about him.<br>excellent video Sir. keep them coming

  One major point that was omitted: LT. Murphey called an artillery strike on his own position because the Germans were that close.

  And then he became a legitimate Hollywood movies star. The man was absolutely one of a kind.

  They made a movie about Murphy&apos;s exploits Called &quot;To hell and Back&quot; starring Murphy as himself. They actually played down his heroism because they didn&apos;t think people would believe how awesome Murphy was (he was also very modest). Murphy was only 5&apos;5&quot; (165 cm) tall. He had a career as an actor in Hollywood and stared in a lot of cowboy movies and battled with PTSD and pain pills. He died in a plane crash in 1971. <br>Edit to correct he had issues with pain pills, not alcohol

  I&apos;m native Texan I was born in the military family and so far what I know is in my family we took pride and serving in the military and to be patriotic.

  This kid was given every award for bravery available from the U.S. Army not just the medal of honor. Look up his awards.

  I was honored with being able in 2011 to pay respect to Lt. Murphy&apos;s resting site. &nbsp;Was an emotional day with the that experience and the changing of the guard to Honor our &quot;Unkown &quot; . Will never forget 💔
