I'd rather have an emperor throwing lavish and costly parties over being lynched for not wearing a Shroud, thank you very much...

I was travelling overland in 1977, and for 1 month, through Iran . I was amazed how warm and friendly the people were, how happy and liberated the country was compared to Afghanistan, which I arrived from.
Only old women would wear a vale. I never saw beggars in the street. I remember, buildings going up everywhere and instead of building a road around a mountain, there was a tunnel through a mountain many kilometres long.
It was impressive.
Now we have one of the most violent and delusional governments, being the major sponsor of terrorism.
Congratulations to and long live the women of Iran and their quest for freedom.

My husband and I had been hired to teach at Tehran International Community School. At the last minute, one of the teachers we were replacing decided to stay one more year, so we went to Alexandria, Egypt to teach at an international school there, still intending to move to Tehran. While we were in Alexandria, the Shah's government fell. Many of the international school teachers came to Alexandria, thinking that they could return to Iran soon. Unfortunately, all of the international schools were closed by the new extremists. Many of the American teachers had been there for several years because they liked it so much, and they had apartments, cars, bank accounts, and a full life abroad there. Everything was stripped from them. They lost all of their belongings and money and the new Iranian government would not allow the international schools to reopen or their teachers to return to Iran. We came back to the USA for a year and then went to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to teach in the American school there. When our son was born in Riyadh, my husband moved to a position in the ARAMCO schools so I could work part time. We lived in Saudi for 7 years and had intended to stay, but oil production plummeted and massive numbers of teachers were “surplussed.”

21:03 "You have the real scroll in your museum, you took it from us." He says so calmly. I'd be saying, "Now, give it back, damn it."

In Shah's time (Mohammad Reza Pahlavi), we Armenians as a small minority had every rights and good opportunity for living, education, cloture, religion and many others which you couldn't find many other places so we are always appreciated to have a kinds of good life style in Iran before backward anti Iranian movement of 1979.

I remember the Shah. He was intelligent, well mannered and cultured. He spoke very good French. His overthrow was a disaster for Iran.

My friend just visited Iran with her son, a second time in a few years. Iranian people are nice and friendly , the country is beautiful , they said. They were in the northwestern part of Iran. Love from Hungary.

We iranians loved that celebration actually, it was the first time iranian civilisation was being celebrated in. our modern history. It was a huge source of pride and also great advertisement for our country as it quadrupled tourism in Iran the following year. May he rest in peace
