  I can’t speak for Julliard but as a Curtis student I can say I’m glad I don’t have to pay tuition, however the cost of living struggle is all too real. Both schools are incredibly expensive to operate (to the point I’m not convinced $550M is enough) and that does take away from our learning experiences in school. Students often feel like they’re being drowned in financial problems while at the same time drowning in concerts. While these schools do help with financial aid, that doesn’t come without the stress of having to apply for it, ask for it or have to convince stubborn financial boards to help. Ultimately learning music is very expensive and is paid for partly by donors who really care and also donors who want that sweet tax cut, leaving a finite amount of money to fund the arts. And I think Curtis’ success here is its tiny student body, so if Julliard pulls this off (a school with nearly 7x the students) I will be very impressed

  My brother is a Julliard grad (cello.  He's really, really good and he had a pro symphony job for a long time but covid ruined the organization of the group and now he's studying coding.  He still teaches and gigs and none of that is Julliard's fault but, it's kind of sad to see happen.

  For what it's worth, I have a Music degree from the University of Toronto. Quite a few (not all) of my professors were Julliard or Eastman educated. We used many of the same textbooks as Julliard did, and quite frankly, I learned a lot, had wonderful professors, appreciated how classes and credits were structured, and enjoyed my time there. I feel like I got a great education for much less money. It was CAD $6K/yr without living in residence for a Canadian student at the time, and I had some scholarships which further reduced how much I had to pay. I don't think that it matters as much to attend a "name brand" school (which is what I personally call schools like Julliard). You get out of your education what you put into it. I'm absolutely not disrespecting Julliard. What an honour it would be to be accepted!  However, there are other wonderful options to study music out there that allow new professional musicians to not be completely drowned in debt!

  My dream is to go into music education. however, I recently had to quit public school due to chronic illness and doctors appointments. I was 1st chair trombonist except I was the only one who didn’t own their instrument cuz I’m broke (I was borrowing one from my school). Now for the past 6 months or so I have been without a trombone. I’m homeschooled now and trying to save up. Hopefully one day I’ll get my trombone and become a teacher to others. :)

I, then a broke-ass master of arts in humanities, joked about how he made the money that was then taxed and given to us &quot;non-prifitable&quot; humanists and artist as grants.<br><br>His answer? &quot;The arts and humanities make life sweeter for us engineers so that is nicer to make the money...&quot;

  I know you guys will probably not see this, but I just wanted to let you know that every time you publish a new video—whether it&apos;s a regular one or a short—you make me smile and feel a bit better, no matter how sh**ty my day was.<br><br>I&apos;ve noticed you&apos;ve posted a lot of videos over the past couple of weeks, and while I personally couldn&apos;t be happier, I hope you don&apos;t feel pressured to keep pushing out content.
