Ok, I want to expand upon the statement that the Tudors are responsible for Portsmouth.<br><br>Yes they are responsible for the town, and that's a function of the film. However the Romans were perfectly aware of the value of the location and built Porchester https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portchester in location- a large anti Saxon shore fort built in the 4th century that fortress still survives today. The area remained in almost constant use for 1000 years before Henry VIII builds his defences on the natural harbour. <br><br>So its more a story of how the Tudor's create the "foundations" of what becomes the RN, by building a town for a naval base.
