  The reason I agree with the writers not sticking with making Gabrielle obsessed with Xena in that episode. Is not because it would ruin the “subtext” but rather because it would have made a joke of the whole thing. Like, look! Gabrielle is obsessed with Xena! How funny! We know that’s a spell of some kind. We know Xena and gabrielle have a thing for each other, no spell is needed.😅

  Xena was a crazy show, even by today's standards. Not only did she ride like a skating rink in most of the legendary events of different nations, she was also the main participant in most of them. And their relationship with Gabrielle still has a special place in my heart.

  I would also like to see original script “Fins, Femmes and Gems”. Where Gabrielle was obsessed with Xena instead of herself.

  Great video, I&apos;m always up for more Xena talk!<br><br>The epic romance between Xena and Gabrielle was very impactful in itself. But in my case, when I discovered the show as a young teen in the middle of the golden era of queerbaiting (2013), what was also very impactful was the meaning being the existence of the show. It meant that an entire crew had worked hard to deliver that show (and its romance), and in the late 90s at that, when lesbian relationships on mainstream TV barely existed. Then, expecting the crew to be uncomfortable when it came to talks of XG&apos;s romance and being proven wrong was and still is amazing to me.<br><br>Two other fav sapphic facts of mine: <br>- Renée, as the director of the episode, added the unscripted kiss between reincarnated Xena and Gabrielle in &quot;Déjà Vu All over Again&quot;, right after they called each other &quot;friends&quot;. It both confirmed their relationship further and the fact that XG calling each other friends didn&apos;t mean they weren&apos;t also lovers, we owe you our lives Renée! <br>- In 2022, Steven L Sears (who also wrote &quot;Return of Callisto&quot;) confirmed on the She Nerds Out podcast that he wrote Gabrielle as a lesbian and her wedding with Perdicus was part of that &quot;storyline&quot;. This brought me more joy than I can explain, as someone who reads her as a lesbian (though I respect other interpretations, unless you don&apos;t think she&apos;s into women)

  Yay, more Xena &amp; Gabby content! One moment in &apos;Fins, Femmes, and Gems&apos; where Lucy quite probably leans in is when she grabs a handful after pulling Gabrielle out of the water. Also, it&apos;s always a lot of fun to see the obvious subtext of the conversation between Hercules snd Iolaus at the end of &apos;Prometheus&apos; flying right over Kevin Sorbo&apos;s thick head.🤭

  Wooo hooo! More X &amp; G. Just looked at the episode where X told G that they might have come from different families but their &quot;friendship&quot; &nbsp;ties them closer than blood ever could.<br>I love Melissa Good&apos;s work. I have read a good bit of it.

  The ending really pissed me and my dad off. I grew up watching it with him. I remember the day it aired him just stomping around the house going &quot;they killed her!&quot; It really bothered me because not only did Xena and Gabrielle not get their happily ever after (which they deserved after dedicating their lives to the greater good) but to say Xena has to die to free the souls of the people she killed essentially on accident, but that all the people she viciously killed on purpose didn&apos;t have that caveat, just made zero sense. I prefer not to watch the last 2 episodes but will very rarely because there are some good X/G moments in them.

  Loved it, it&apos;s great to see people still making content for this fandom, I only watched it properly for the first time about two years back and I&apos;m currently re watching it again 😂

  Ate, slept and breathed this show back then, had no idea they were deliberately writing in a subtext, just assumed they were a canon couple. &nbsp;The chemistry between the actors was the main reason people started shipping them IMO, no matter how they played them, we were just going to go there even if the network wouldn&apos;t let them. &nbsp;Never much cared for LL&apos;s remarks back then, especially saying the ending was &quot;hilarious&quot; which it most certainly was not. &nbsp;She has since apologized for which I gave her alot of credit. &nbsp;I am one of those who will never watch it again; my rewatch always ends with MHR. &nbsp;And if you haven&apos;t read any of Melissa Good&apos;s fan fic, please find it and do so, it is PG which I like and she knows those characters. &nbsp;They have all pretty much acknowledged X &amp; G were married, including LL. &nbsp;Too bad the movie never happened, with Katherine Fugate writing it, it would have been perfect and would have corrected Tapert&apos;s boneheaded decision to kill off such an iconic character, and in such a brutal unnecessary way at that.
