This welded area will no doubt crack then break. A deep Vee is required on both sides<br>Next line up both pieces with thick side supports using strong C clamps while tacking. Preheat whole area.<br>Stitch tack on diagonal corners 1/2 inch long. Remove side supports and 1st pass bottom of vee. Next pass opposite sides.<br>Heat area next pass etc. Do not grind surface weld. Heat when finished and allow a slow cool.

Welded joints are not strong enough to withstand impact loads.May be broken or sheared off.

Had I been welding that axle, I would also have put a Fillet on either side, welded and bolted through and a strap welded top and bottom!<br>Then, that's just me! 😊
