  I lost my mom in 1992. It happened after she lost her job at Freedom National Bank and struggled to find another one. Life was really hard growing up in Harlem after that. I still miss her every single day. 😔💔

  This is so disheartening. I worked for Johnson Products in the early 1970s as a cosmetic consultant in the Read's Drug Stores in Maryland. I remember John Johnson traveling from the plant in Chicago to my home store. He showed up as the store was about to open. He stuck out his hand introducing himself saying that he made a point to travel to the stores where the Johnson Products were sold, making sure they were well represented by the each market across the country. He let me know to expect an invitation to a meeting where I could see the plant, meet other personnel, and learn more about the company. As a young woman the whole presentation, from his visit with me at my store to the visit to Chicago months later was quite impressive. John and his brother George were great businessmen. It sickens me how these businesses were strong armed into nonexistence. May God step into helping Black businesses thrive, more than just survive.

  I now see why the hair care products we grew up on, or raisd children on, no longer works for our hair, causing cancers, and hair loss. Moisturizing products should not be drying out our hair, certainly not  within the first few minutes of application. The wide push for wearing egde gel, mousse, and hair extensions, is ridiculous. They know these temporary beauty items cause permanent hair loss. Make your own natural products for your crowns and skin.

  Memphis , I remember Lewis, i remember black owned banks, grocery stories and the hair products. Memphis black owned radio stations.
