I wish my wife looked at me the way Will Prowse was looking at those connectors.

I am a master electrician. I have been crimping cables for over 55 years. Will's advice is accurate . I have nothing to add to what he says.

I had absolutely no idea that copper was cold welding inside that connector. I thought it was just physically gripping it so it couldn't pull out. Time for me to go inspect and probably redo every connector I've ever made. I have a hydraulic crimper, but I've never questioned it for a second if it was making a proper mechanical bond. The ends don't pull off, but that's not a good enough test I guess.

There are different lugs for different cables of the same cross-sectional area. The ones for coarse stranded conductors, typically used in industrial electrical applications, will be too small for fine stranded conductors. The 50 mm/2 C50 would be for coarse, and the KS 50 would be for fine stranded in metric applications.

Tip on getting all the strands into the barrel of the terminal, which can sometimes be troublesome. Strip in two cuts, one halfway, one where the desired amount needs to be removed. Remove the outermost insulation piece and discard, then use the inner piece to compress the strands close to the end, push on the terminal halfway, and cut the other half of the insulation off with a sharp blade.

I had the pleasure of working at Hubbell for 45.5 years before retiring. Hubbell is the parent company of Burndy. The Burndy products are expense, but they are USA made in New Hampshire. High quality at a high cost.

I really enjoy your videos, I'm an engineer with a lot of expertise in electrical and it's what I work with the most. Even though I know how to do most of the stuff in your videos, there is still so many caveats and explanations that I've missed. Your explanations are a goldmine for this field, and knowing why it works is magnitudes better than just knowing how to do it.
Louis Rossman's videos on your Battleborn issue was my way to your channel, for anyone who doesn't know his channel I'd highly recommend to check it out - even though it's not generally related.

The Burndy lugs aren't designed for high stranded cable, that's why they have no flare, have a long barrel and didn't fit the welding cable.
Also welding cable isn't typically rated for engine area use. Yes its more flexible than tinned marine cable, but it also smells terrible and does not travel well through confined/tight spaces without a lot of wire lubricant. Most reputable marine cable is 105c rated with UL Standard 1426 BC-5W2 or ABYC E-11. Off grid its a no brainer for welding cable, but for marine or R/V, use the good stuff, it also doesn't stink
