Fact that he still finished with a career avg of .313 is really something else.

Legend has it that Nomar is still getting settled in the batter's box as we speak.

What's amazing is that in 2005 Nomar saved 2 women who had fallen into the ocean by his house and he jumped into the water and rescued them A true hero !
He never made much of it either just basically shrugged it off .

As a Boston kid born in the late 80’s nothing exemplifies Nomar’s popularity here more than my annual fights for #5 from Little League all the way through high school.

His peak years happened to coincide with my peak baseball viewing years, it was a great show he put on in the late 90s

Nomar hit .372 in 2000; go look up how many right-handed hitters have hit .370 for an entire season; the list is very short. Nomar was the real deal.

Honestly, I don't think it was the Cubs trade that shattered Nomar. I'm surprised you didn't mention the trade that I think was the real culprit. The trade the Sox tried to make in the off-season before the '04 season started that would have sent Manny and Lester to the Rangers for A-Rod, and Nomar to the White Sox for Magglio and Brandon McCarthy.

It was nixed by the Player's Union because A-Rod would have had to restructure his deal and take a lot less money, but I think its evident that the trade shook Nomar. The Cubs trade may have been a reaction to Nomar's performance and attitude in the first half of '04, but Nomar's performance and attitude was a reaction to the A-Rod trade.

Not adding an extra $1 million/year on a $15 mil/year, 4 year deal almost sounds personal.

It’s obvious that Nomar will be always be known as a Red Sox player. But for those few years when he was a Dodger player were awesome to see. He at one point was in contention for a gold glove at 1st base but he started to have a couple errors towards the end of the season that killed that notion. I will always remember him being part of the game that the Dodgers hit 4 straight HRs to tie the game against the Padres, with him hitting the walk off in extra innings, a truly magic moment in the history of the Dodgers.

Garciaparra was the catalyst of Boston's soon-to-be success at the time. Without him, the Red Sox probably don't even try to get Pedro or Manny and thus no Ortiz. He inspired a generation of young fans to get into the game.

You ask me, he was 'culturally' worth 68 million, with an added 0. Red Sox did him dirty (even with that makeup post-retirement). Go figure they'd pretty much do the same to Mookie. Thankfully, Mookie is doing fine.
