As a teacher with forty years of experience, I can add that using a strap — which every electric guitar is designed for — eliminates the need for footstools or cushions.

I wish I'd seen this 30 years ago. Bad habits over a long time have take a toll. I'm now in my 60's and have arthritis which stops me playing a lot of the time. Anyone starting out, take note. Good posture and finger position will let you keep going
