My older sister and I have a good relationship, but when we were children, she was really violent toward me.<br>I always tried to stand my ground and fight back, but I was just too small to deter her consistently.<br>A couple of weeks ago, at my dad's birthday, old childhood stories came up, and our parents joked about how violent we were as kids. My sister immediately insisted that it was always me who initiated the violence.<br>I replied shortly and dryly, "Oh really? If I was the one initiating violence, why did it stop the moment I became stronger than you?"<br>The whole table looked baffled at me. 😅

It's the women-are-wonderful effect. It was named by Alice Eagly and Antonio Mladinic in a 1994 paper based on studies where they found <i><b>constantly</b></i><b></b> that the vast majority of women would automatically take the side of a women in almost every hypothetical situation. The best part is that they, ironically, set out to prove the opposite. Basically they tried to prove that men are inherently sexist but the results overwhelmingly proved the opposite.

Told this story many times:<br>Had an ex that accused me of abuse and being a narcissist. Only girlfriend I've ever yelled at, so I figured she must be right. Got a therapist who eventually convinced me that the relationship was unhealthy. After the breakup, she mailed me a book about being a narcisisstic abuser. Chapter 2 or 3 has lines saying that vulnerable narcissists will play the innocent victim while hurting you and then you react with anger, which only gives them more ammo while convincing you and others that you are the problem. <br><br>My therapist and I had a good chuckle about the irony.

This "What did he do to deserve this?" is the societal equivalent for men as our "What was she wearing?" when a women gets assaulted. I find both equally disgusting acts of victim blaming.

It's kind of disturbing how online women have constructed this world where they are never really responsible because somewhere in the universe there is a whiff of a justification.

I worked as an emergency nurse and one night a man came in assaulted by his wife. She hit him in the head with a frying pan multiple times. All the women I worked with thought it was hilarious and assumed he must've done something wrong. So I turned it around and said, yeah, there was a woman that was hit by a baseball bat by her boyfriend and broke her arm. She must've done something pretty fucked up to deserve that response. The women's response was immediate and horrific and how dare I say shit like that. When the guy arrives in the ambulance, he was unresponsive, had a huge cut to his forehead, multiple phrasal fractures, and a head bleed that resulted in him getting flown by helicopter to a neurological trauma center, so let's assume he was an asshole who cheated. Let's assume he was a horrible person and deserved to die. For the sake of quality are we saying that men can start murdering women who cheat just for quality sake
