I never heard that bright lipstick on an older woman reads as aging or desperate. I’m almost 67 and I routinely wear bright or deep colors. Always get compliments, too.

As a southern woman, I always have lipstick on bright colors brighten up my face. Although as I have gotten older, I have to be careful about dark colors and I always have to use a touch of light reflecting gloss not to make my lips look super wet. Like the insta filters of today, but just to do a little light reflection. I do not care how trend it is. I never never wear matte lipsticks. I hate them. Also, older ladies use your toothbrush to scrub those lips every few days to get the dead skin off. That keeps the bright lipstick from kind of caking
