They die from bubbles. They die from sunlight. Out of 300 million eggs laid, only one or two survive. How much of the famous numbers and images you know about ocean sunfish are actually true? This 16-minute reincarnation record lets you verify each of these "famous stories" with your own body, from a 1mm diameter egg to a 3-meter-long adult fish. [Supplement - Regarding various theories and unresolved issues] Ocean sunfish are "fish that are famous, yet an extreme amount of which is unknown." The following numbers used in this program are treated as having low accuracy or whose sources cannot be identified. "300 million eggs": This comes from a 1921 report of the "number of immature eggs in the ovary," not a record of the "number laid." Recent estimates include 38.5 million and 80 million, and even experts themselves write that "the exact number has not yet been estimated" as of the end of 2025. * "Only 1-2 survive": There are no studies that have actually measured the survival rate of ocean sunfish; this is merely speculation. It's not a definitive figure. "More than 40 species of parasites": The primary source could not be identified. A survey published in January 2026 confirmed 10 species (4 of which were new) in a single group called flukes. "Lifespan": Estimates range from around 10 years to nearly 100 years, and there is no established method for determining their age. "The legend of being the weakest" (bubbles, sunlight, impact upon landing, sunrise, companions) are all treated as hoaxes or later fabrications. In this text, the most likely explanation for its spread is: additions to online encyclopedias (around 2010) → summary sites (around 2012) → social media (2013). However, since we have not been able to access primary sources regarding "who first made the claim," we have not identified any individuals or specific posts. Regarding species misidentification: The world record of 2,744 kg is for the ocean sunfish (Mola alexandrini), not the ocean sunfish (Mola mola). Also, the famous research on "warm-blooded fish" refers to the red ocean sunfish (a different genus), which is not covered in this text. [Main Sources] • Schmidt, J.
