  I live about thirty minutes away from Palm Beach. I was awarded a scholarship to attend a private school there, and it was unbelievable. My classmates, who mostly lived in the surrounding areas, were on a completely different plane of existence. I would frequently overhear discussions about weekend trips to their holiday home in the Hamptons and about how they crashed their brand-new Tesla, only to be given another one within a matter of days (true story, though it happened three times). However, besides such instances, they behaved just like my classmates from my time at public school. It was bizarre to see the children of millionaires and billionaires behave like normal kids in between their obscene (but oblivious) proclamations of wealth. I do not think they intended to flaunt their status, as they knew that was shameful, but they had no idea how not to. They had spent their entire life surrounded by people who thought going on a vacation worth thousands of dollars to Europe for their birthday was normal; they stood no chance of understanding the average American experience within such an echo chamber. They wholeheartedly believe that their wealthy families&apos; occasional acts of charity and subpar attempts at acknowledging inequality are making a significant impact on the American economy and helping increase equity. They do not comprehend the nuance of poverty, and I doubt most of them will ever fully understand enough to use their status to promote genuine reform. They are trained to be complacent.

  I’ve lived in FL my whole life surrounded by these millionaires/billionaires. I’ve learnt that no matter where you are, there’s going to be someone better off than you. There’s absolutely no reason to look left or right in comparison. Most of these folks are lucky to have inherited generational wealth and can be still miserable and dumb as rocks.
