The credit song is “fire drill” which is one of her singles. Despite what people say BEFORE portals. You should do the After School EP

Meanings of the songs:
(its looong)

Wheels on the bus - The original wheels on the bus talks about mundane but repetitive things. Melanie is drawing a picture of the happenings on a school bus that are less mundane but includes bullying, division into cliques, and mild sexual activity. She bites her tongue and has to get through it because none of the administrators (bus driver) care to do anything about it.

Class fight - This song is about Cry Babys jealousy of Kelly and her relationship with Brandon, as Cry Baby has a crush on him. This song can also be about how women are constantly pitted against each other, especially in the music industry. Melanie also says it is partially about how when their partner cheats, women are conditioned to get mad at the other woman rather than the guy who is cheating.

Principal - The Principal is about toxic politicians/the toxic government and president turning a blind eye to all the horrible things that are happening and hurting others in order to gain money. It’s also directed towards Donald Trump. In this song, Melanie is confronting them about what they are doing and calling them out. ‘Killing kids all day and night,’ could be about school shootings. ‘All you want is cash and hype,’ All the government and Donald Trump want is money.

Show & Tell - Show and tell is melanie singing about the harsh treatment of celebrities in the modern world. They are made out as objects for people to stare at, and be punished for showing their true feelings. In lyrics like 'you beg and cry for more, yet I'm on the floor ' she references how she doesn't WANT the photos and media. She just wants to be a human.

Nurses Office - The song talks about suffering from bullying at school. She undergoes so much cruel treatment by her peers all day long, and the teachers and staff don’t seem to care much at all. She can’t take it anymore so she takes matters into her own hands. She fakes being sick, fakes having seizures, etc, just to have an excuse to get out of class and not have to deal with the bullying since that is the only thing that will work for the staff to finally pay attention to her, and for her to get out of her situation.

Drama Club - The visual/music video for Drama Club is a critique of gender roles, using the double meaning of playing a 'role' in a drama production and also playing a 'role' in society. Her and the other girls are playing housewives, who gush over the men proposing to them and do all the domestic chores like ironing clothes while the men watch. This message is also referenced in the dialogue exchange just before the song starts, where Crybaby asks the teacher if she can play a "different role" that is a bit "less domestic" like "a CEO or the president", and he suggests she play a "harlot" instead (an old, derogatory term for sex worker). The song also criticises 'fake' people who do not challenge the toxic social constructs of our society and instead play into them. Also, people who in general are putting up a front or a false self in their daily social life, being in-genuine for their own personal gain and causing 'drama'.

Strawberry shortcake - The song is about how many girls are taught from a young age that they are only valued if they are attractive to men. This regularly causes them to feel insecure about how they look since they do not fit society's standards. Cry Baby takes several measures to change her appearance so that she is considered more attractive, such as waxing her legs and stuffing her bra so her breasts appear larger. Due to this, she draws an excessive amount of attention from boys, causing her to feel as if it is her fault that they are becoming distracted by her and her body.

Lunchbox Friends - The song is about fake friends, and people in school who do not actually want a close connection at all. These people have high standards for who can be considered their "friend" and require them to appear a certain way. They also gossip and spread rumors about people they don't actually know. In this song, Cry Baby longs for a friendship with a deep connection, not one that only lasts till the clock hits three. "Come to my house, lets die together. Friendship that will last forever".

Orange Juice - The song is about Cry Baby's friend, Fleur, and her struggles with bulimia. Fleur was a member of Kelly's posse, and thus was expected to maintain a specific figure to continue being her friend, which was the main cause of her eating disorder. She is shown to have a hatred for her body, but Cry Baby believes that she is beautiful and wants her to see herself with her eyes. The lyric, 'You turn oranges to orange juice' refers to how people with bulimia often throw up their meal after eating.

Detention - The song refers to the feeling of suppression and vulnerability while being in the public eye and having to put up a perfect image even if you are not alright. The place "detention" refers to being in the music industry, as many artists feel as though they have to present perfectly in order to not be criticized.

Teachers Pet - The song speaks on pedophilia, grooming, and inappropriate teacher-student relationships. It is about Cry Baby's best friend Angelita having a sexual relationship with their Biology Teacher. She wishes to have a serious relationship with him, however, he only uses her for sexual gratification. She questions why their relationship needs to be kept a secret if he truly believes that she is special and really cares about her. Angelita knows that the relationship is doomed to end, but she still wants to hold onto it, believing that it could be something more.

High school Sweethearts - The track is about Cry Baby wishing to have a lover who is honest with her and truly loves her, among other requirements. She wants a serious relationship, not a one-time fling. Crybaby wants to be with someone who would accept her the way she is, wouldn't cheat on her, treat her right, and more. She wants someone who would make it with her to the end.

Recess - The song is about letting go of harmful and toxic people, as well as the importance of maintaining your mental health when times are rough. The pre-chorus could be touching on the music industry, as artists are often overworked and receive minimal breaks, while the second they take some time for themselves they are replaced by another artist.

Love the reaction!
