The story of how spoiled milk literally saved human survival before we even understood lactase persistence or microbiology is fascinating!

The fact that cheese basically started because people didn't want to waste spoiled milk is incredible. Excellent watch!

Really enjoyed this one. Looking at cheese as a survival technology rather than just food makes the story much more interesting — preserving milk, extending calories, and changing how people could live with domesticated animals. I’m building FIRSTFOLK around the same bigger question of how humans really lived, so I always appreciate seeing thoughtful takes on early human life like this. Great work!

The fact that cheese may have started with someone looking at curdled milk and thinking “eh, let’s try it” is peak human behavior 😂 Ancient people were basically doing microbiology by accident and turning spoilage into one of our best foods.

Ancient humans ate accidental moldy milk chunks out of an animal stomach to survive the winter. Modern humans throw away a $10 block of artisanal cheese because the plastic wrap looked slightly bloated. We have lost all survival skills.

Did ancient humans actually invent cheese? Maybe not. They probably discovered it by accident when milk was stored in animal stomachs or containers and naturally curdled. So cheese may not have been an invention at all—it could’ve been one of history’s tastiest accidents.

Imagine being the brave soul thousands of years ago who saw accidentally curdled milk stored in an animal stomach and thought, "Yeah, I'm definitely going to taste that." Humanity owes them everything! 😂🧀

Such an interesting story! I never really thought about how people could have discovered cheese thousands of years ago. Do we know which ancient civilization is believed to have made it first?
