I lived in Bandon and it IS inconvenient. My top two favorite things are, downtown because it is off 101 so traffic is low, plentry of parking and people can wander around and there is a small airport with free parking in North Bend so getting around isn't completely out of the question. I would go to Eugene about 4 times a year to shop and see a show although downtown has some really great boutiques and a great shoe store. There is a Costco in Roseburg too, I DID just sell a house there and lost money so I think it is a good time to buy. The biggest export according to the City Council is young people. It is still coming out of the pandemic in many ways but improvement IS happening there. The Dunes is also the biggest employer in the County and a good one. You are right about the health care. It is probably the best on the coast because of Coos Bay and North Bend being right up the street, although I found a GP and dentist right in town. I think Coos County has made health care a priority. The County seat of Coquille needs some serious TLC. It is a conservative area so new taxes on any ballot never pass. The library, the city park and the community theater are definite pluses. They have been pushing for a public pool for a long time and I am not sure where that stands. Electricity is run by the City which is interesting. Solid infrustructure. They have great 4th of July, Christmas and Cranberry Festival celebrations. Florence, Langlois and Port Orford a are good day jaunts. I could go on and on. I miss it somedays.

Moved to Seaside from Seattle. Priority was that insurance covered the area, hospital close by as we are seniors. You cannot rely on emergency services in some areas due to multiple accidents during high tourist season. Some backups last for hours. Gearhart also has some elk problems, a LOT of elk. Lots of wildlife in some areas. But the beach is great.

As a resident and explorer on the southern Oregon coast in various areas in the past 6 years, long enough to get a good understanding of the area and pluses and minuses, I think this is a good overview of living options along the coast. One thing that I would suggest is that the coast is more than beaches, hospitals and shopping... the coastal rivers, hills and mountains have much to offer as well.

I’ve lived in Coos Bay for the last 12 years. Lived here before as well (two of my grown children were born here). Played golf at Bandon Dunes (they have a free 9 hole course). Plenty of golf around.

Love our downtown. Love the weather, but if dreary, rainy winters are not your thing then maybe reconsider. Healthcare can be trickier than you think. Need to see a specialist? It’s often a 2 hour ride to Eugene. I grew up in rural Georgia just outside of Atlanta. I could be to the edge of the city in about 30-40 minutes. Interstate was right there. Southern Oregon is not always as convenient. You have to want to live here. Personally, I love it. Sit on the covered porch every night 365.

There are some amazing trails around Gearhart. Some that are marked and some that are not.

Are you familiar with the Golden Shores estate, between Port Orford and Ophir? The most magnificent property I have ever seen.
For sheer beauty, just outside Reedsport is the Lower Umpqua River valley... absolutely breathtaking.
Just north of Ophir on 101 is a beachfront property which began to be developed around '98 or so. Rumors suggested actor Tom Hanks purchased the property.
In Bandon, think beauty, and Scotch Broom....that imported shrub to Oregon which has become the most invasive plant in Oregon. Very yellow.

I own a grand historical house in Gearhart. But I am very concerned about seismic activity.

A lot of women live in Florence. Wondering if there's a lot of natural beauty there. Thanks for your excellent presentation.
