The 7th reason to Rejoice is to run our race and finish well. Paul wrote this in 1st century AD, during the days of Olympic games and he compares our lives to running a race. It’s a perfect analogy with a starting line, when we trust Jesus as our Savior and finishing line, the end of our life when we receive the prize which is heaven. Everything in between is the life we live now. This is not a race of speed but of endurance. Our competitor is ourself though satan does attack us, our goal must be to finish well. Some of us get a slow start, some start late & regret. All of us have stumbled or failed at some point & no one is perfect, what matters is that we make sure we finish well and receive our crown. Paul when he wrote his last letter to Timothy says, he fought the good fight, finished the race n kept the faith and a crown of righteousness awaits him, which the Lord, would award him when He appears. Next Paul tells us how to run the race. 1. To run with humility. He wasn’t satisfied with his spirituality as we all need to grow n learn everyday. God teaches us something new each day. God will show something in us that needs correction. Sanctification is a continuous process, which is dying to self & crucifying the flesh.Jesus died for us n redeemed us, but as long as we live, we need to be sanctified. We must submit ourselves to the Lordship of Jesus daily by surrendering our life to Him. Pride is the root cause of all sins. We find fault & condemn others thinking we are better than them, satan fell because of pride. He is the master of deception. No one is perfect in this world. Only when our time comes to stand before the Lord, we will be perfected. So let’s pray and ask God to make us more like Jesus each day. God rejects the proud but gives grace to the humble. John Newton wrote the song<br>“Amazing grace”, when he realized what a wretched sinner he had been. We have all not reached, where we want to be, but we are not what we used to be. We must progress each day in our walk with God. 2. We must run our race facing fwd, not looking behind. All of us have a past, let our past not prevent us from moving fwd. It’s a new day with Christ so we need to look ahead, not deny our past but deal with it, we may need healing or forgiveness so we mustn’t get stuck there. 3. Let the past refine us, not define us. Let the good n bad of our past, be our learning experience. Let God use it to refine our hearts. God has a wonderful way of removing our impurities n refining us, by which we get to walk with Him more closely than before. Let’s pray that our past makes us stronger & more closer to Christ. We are children of the Most High God & that’s our new identity in Him. In Christ we are the redeemed. We cannot drive a car looking at the rear view mirror, in the same way, we cannot run a race looking behind. We need to live in the moment and understand who we are in Christ at present. We must run our race with our eyes fixed on heaven, our ultimate prize, which our Lord has in store for us. Our citizenship is in heaven where Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us. He will come again to receive us. We must never give up. This life is short compared to Eternity. So since we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us, let’s run our race with perseverance by fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author n perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame n sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. We must always keep Christ in sight n run for Him, not for ourselves. We want to hear You say “Well done you good n faithful servant when we stand before You.”Thanks Pstr Gary for nailing it.
