Colin Firth ruined any chance of being outclassed the evening he strutted around the room on Meryton’s first introduction. His stopping in front of a dark mahogany door so framing himself as a work of art, captured the character perfectly.

My wife and I have watched the '95 version every December for 30 years. She says there is only one Darcy. I defer to her judgement.

Colon Firth is head and shoulders above every other Darcy! He plays the role with depth and vulnerability and shows us the inner turmoil Darcy faces. We see his falling in love with Lizzie in his eyes and demeanor without speaking a word. He is wonderful.

Although the 1995 miniseries is also my favorite, and Colin Firth my favorite Darcy, what made that P&P the best adaptation was, hands down, Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth. Her facial expressions, both subtle and overt, many so fleeting you'd miss them if you glance away, communicated as much as her dialogue. What an excellent actor.

I have read Pride and Prejudice several times since I was 16 and have seen several of the series and films. The evening I saw Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle I was finally satisfied.
