  There is obviously some confusion, but what amazes me is that both languages are intelligible enough to explain that confusion and actually hold a conversation. Very fascinating video!

  As a Dutch speaker, who has no problem understanding 80% of written Frysian the Old English was understandable to me. It really helped if you spoke a little slower. Fascinating video! Dankje/Dankewol/Ic þancie þe!

  Now I don&apos;t speak old English nor Frisian, but with my knowledge of English, Dutch and German I could see a lot of connections.<br>understand →farstand →verstaan →verstehen<br>and note that:<br>to stand →staan →stehen.<br><br>It&apos;s just around the corner.

  As an English and German speaker, this is like two of the weirdest, but somehow most familiar languages ever. I was surprised how much I could make out, especially seeing it in written form. Neato.

  Frisian sounds as a mixture of Danish, German, Dutch and English. Beautiful language!

  As a native German speaker I was able to pick up the majority of what was said. Some sentences were close to identical to modern German, while others were at least deducible. Only very few sentences where I had no clue what was said at all. <br><br>I showed this video to my cousin as well. She grew up in Lower-Saxony, able to speak several Low-German dialects. Different to me she didn&apos;t study English at school but French, therefore she didn&apos;t have this advantage. Of course, Frisian was hardly a problem for her. But she did surprisingly well understanding Old English as well, as if there were no differences.

  Being from Friesland, old English sounds so funky but it is so cool that on youtube you can find so many songs in old english and understand like 75% of the lyrics
