  I've toured a couple of WW II subs. The claustrophobia was palpable. These guys are a different breed. Proud!

  I can attest to the stories truth. &nbsp;I was the Commander of the &nbsp;pre-commissioning crew PCU, then the Officer in charge (OIC) once the reactor was fueled. &nbsp;Now as the OIC my crew and I took the ship to sea on sea-trials. &nbsp;Once the ship was delivered to the Navy, she was Commissioned and I became the first ships Commanding Officer. &nbsp;I was but one member of a crew that did their best to monitor equipment installation an testing. &nbsp;Thr crew did a great job. &nbsp;If you see USS Columbus (SSN762), know that you are seeing a well,built, tested ship whose crew can handle anything they are ordered to do.<br><br>The are a truly a wonderful group people . &nbsp;I consider them all family.<br><br>Carl M Smeigh, Jr, Capt., USN(Ret) Plank owner

  I truly would go crazy after day 3 being Stuck in a Confined Space like that. Kudos to the Officers and Sailors that can do this, to keep the U.S. safe. 😊

  &quot; Hot racking &quot; only affects the &quot; most junior &quot; personnel attached to the Command .<br><br> I had to do this when I was a Fireman ( SU ) meaning an E-3 in rank , Submarine Unqualified , on my 1st boat . I got my own rack only when it was a portable one that was tied down to the torpedo &nbsp;rack when we weren&apos;t fully loaded out w/ Mk-48 Adcaps or Encapsulated Harpoons . Not until I made 2nd Class PO , was I assigned my own rack .

  My understanding is the Navy no longer does the 18 hour clock! Every ship now uses a 24 hour clock. It&apos;s time to update your facts! USMC PROUD... You folks are amazing! Thank you for your service! Thanks for being our taxi service...
