I think the reason why they are remaking Black Flag first is because Ubisoft is struggling financially and they need guaranteed sales and renewed interest in the series. So they remake the most popular entry.

Something I wish Ubisoft still did was the history tours that they had in Origins/Odyssey. My wife doesn't super love the gameplay of AC but she absolutely loved getting to walk around the world like it was a fully virtual museum.

A time stamp is very much recommended for those who just wants to hear the premise and see the ranking without getting spoilt

First time I've ever fully agreed with someone about this series. Sounds like we had almost all the exact same experiences pretty much.

What I LOVE about Assassin's Creed 1 is scale. You feel like just a small part in some really big conflict. Your targets are diplomats, traders, doctors, the occasional general. All the kind of thing that the history books would forget, so the setting remains immersive when we pull out to the modern day. In combat, you aren't an unstoppable one man army cutting your way across the continent like in every other game. You have to pick your moments, and are encouraged to plan your attack carefully with your investigation giving you more options and lore. Rather than just doing more damage, taking less, or having totally different "classes", the AI itself is just... really good at punishing you for fighting. Even basic soldiers are pretty tough at times. Story, the creed gets a lot of love in this game, and the world building of the factions is done really well, and I approve of how it is all reflected in the gameplay. The actual plot is pretty bland, and it does feel repetitive, but I enjoy Altair's redemption arc across the game and have a soft spot for this entry.

For a remake, there are a few things I would want. One, a way to track the collectibles around the world. They are all unmarked and hunting them is a miserable experience. B, dedicated graphical overhaul of each city, particularly Acre and Jerusalem which are far too similar, make them look and feel unique. iii, improve the parkour system, modernise it. The combat I actually prefer to some of the middle entries, but the freerunning is janky and imprecise.

I agree about Valhalla. I put it down pretty early and never picked it back up, despite enjoying the previous two rpg entries (particularly Odyssey). Funny enough, I experienced a similar loss of interest/burnout on the formula with the more traditional games, starting after Black Flag. I fell off the series slowly after that, despite being a huge fan since the first game, and the cycle repeated itself after an initial reinvigoration of excitement around the rpg entries. Tried Shadows but just couldn't get into that either, and I figured I was just done with the series for good. But then, along comes the Black Flag remake to pique my interest once again. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. Great video, by the way.

Black Flag was my first AC game and I couldn’t stand the modern day segments (other than hacking computers because I like puzzle solving). But now I understand how weak that part was, compared to the earlier games. I just always wanted more pirate stuff and being pulled out of the simulation just made me groan and want to get through it as fast as possible.

Bro, I watched your video through Syndicate (I haven't played Origins and beyond yet) and I agree with your thoughts and takes so much! I love your commentary, because you can just tell you are hardcore Assassin's Creed series enjoyer. I have also got every achievement and 100% synced on all of the games (except Syndicate yet or the ones after that I haven't played). This series is just so enjoyable. And I 1000% agree with your takes on the modern-day story. I kid you not, it was my favorite part. Since the first game, Assassin's Creed for me was the story of Abstergo and the templars taking over the world using the power of the animus and the pieces of Eden, with the main cast working to prevent this. I was so invested in this, and it was peaking with AC3. When Desmond was killed off, I feel like the series killed off its main plot. I really miss it and now it feels like its just historical games, not the interesting story of exploring your ancestors or centuries past. I also agree with all of your rankings except I think I would lean towards putting Unity in B-tier, but maybe A-tier. And I would consider putting Rogue in A-tier, almost S-tier. Rogue was so fresh with the perspective change and the story was fantastic, tying in Unity, Black Flag, and even AC3! Amazing video and takes. It is nice to see another person who appreciates it more than just assassin gameplay.

13:30 Ubisoft changed it due to them not having renewed their agreement with the model, thus they weren't allowed to use him. However they got him ready for AC III

Unity should've not just had Shay involved in its story, but also should've had Arno questioning both sides on who was the most in the right and then started following his own path. I think that would've been sick instead of the usual Piece of Eden chasing.
