My Grandma Wright’s story began with her parents. They came to America from Fehmarn, an island between Denmark and Germany. They immigrated during the 1870 Potato Famine, eventually settling in Omaha, Nebraska. There, they partnered with a man, and they built a saloon together. Not much of a saloon, just a large army tent with a wooden floor. Their partner made the whiskey, and the young couple sold it to the miners and farmers. They also managed the flirts, girls hired to encourage their customers to drink, who may have been selling their personal favors to the miners and farmers as well! Their saloon quickly grew into a large wooden building with rooms above the tavern. Grandma’s parents, now with several children, sold their half of this thriving saloon to their partner and bought a large farm where my grandmother was born in 1890, the fifth of ten children. <br><br>I think her story fits. Your story gave me a new perspective.

I own an old building that was a parlor house where we give tours and the history of the place and the prostitution. The girls at our place would have to pay for the security if they called them. So the girls tried to take care of the problems on their own, and with the other girls on the floor they were on. However, if they did have to call the security, they got their moneys worth and the guys were beaten senseless, or within an inch of their lives. Or even further than that in some cases.<br>For the laudanum, it was also known to induce abortions in the right dose. The problem was the correct dose was extremely close to a fatal dose. There were probably lots of instances where girls overdosed on laudanum and died and had their deaths ruled a suicide, that were really just an attempt to abort the fetus. Remember, the police didn't investigate what was going on at any brothel/dance hall, whatever, so it would just be listed as a suicide.

My Grandma's husband died when she was 17. Her only choice she was was to be a Saloon dancer. Later she purchased her own Saloon

Yes it goes on and on everywhere~just more polished and it happened to me when I was in Vietnam in 1968 but only difference I always felt sorry for the girls and was always considerate with them~!! Good Job on the video and I liked and subscribed~!
