I just let a couple strawberries fall into the bed so the seeds sprout the next year. This video was very helpful though in an educational aspect.

Watching this video fills me with such a comforting sense of hope and purpose as autumn approaches. I have used drip irrigation for years, and it worked well. But this year was exceptionally dry, and I found out online that my line spacing was actually about half what was recommended, which is about a foot apart for drippers on a 1 foot spaced half inch line. I added more lines and everything picked up beautifully. Still very green here in zone 8, so will wait to mulch as you suggest.
