Ümit Özdağ’dan Büyük Alkış Alan Konuşma! “Salaklar!”

Victory Party Chairman Prof. Dr. Ümit Özdağ examined the historical background of the relationship between the military and politics in Turkey. Evaluating the turning points of his academic career and the critical moments in the history of the Republic, Özdağ made noteworthy observations regarding the military and political vision of the founding cadres of modern Turkey. The Establishment of the Republic and the Military Legacy of the Founding Cadres Emphasizing that the establishment of the Republic was shaped under the leadership of the Turkish Armed Forces cadres, Ümit Özdağ stated that the officers who demonstrated the will to save the state in the last period of the Ottoman Empire emerged from the 10 years of uninterrupted front-line struggles between 1912-1922. Recalling that the leaders of the time, primarily Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, fought in many regions from Tripoli to the Balkans, from Çanakkale to the War of Independence, Özdağ noted that the common denominator of the first presidents was their front-line experience and organizational skills. Atatürk's Separation of Army and Politics and Institutional Reforms It was noted that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, while rapidly removing the army from daily politics, did not undermine its mission of protecting the state. Referring to the period when generals were forced to make a clear choice between being members of parliament and commanding the army, Özdağ stated that the transformation of the General Staff and the Directorate of Religious Affairs from ministerial status to autonomous directorates through the same legal regulation (Laws No. 429 and 430) aimed to establish balance in the state structure. 00:00 - Army-Politics Relations and the Story Behind the Book's Publication 01:45 - The May 27th Thesis and the Difficulties of the Typewriter Years 04:15 - The Cadres Who Founded the Republic and the Realities of the Front 06:40 - How Atatürk Removed the Army from Daily Politics? 09:20 - The Shared Military Background of the First Presidents 11:30 - The Talat Aydemir Incidents and Post-1960 Reforms 14:50 - The Real Reason for Rank Imbalance and Purges in the Army 17:10 - The 2200-Year Institutional Memory of the Turkish Armed Forces
