I love the story of the Gibeonites: while they had no right to be integrated into God's plan, Joshua stood by the covenant he made with them, and they became loyal servants in the history of Israel, playing a pivotal role in their worship of Yahweh. Like myself, they were grafted in, despite their sin, and received an inheritance they couldn't have dreamed of! Thank you for your faithfulness in consistently delivering God's Word, notwithstanding such a physically demanding schedule.

It's very telling how throughout the whole story, it's the actions and plans of man. But the Lord can't be stopped by the mistakes of man!

Jesus lives ♥️ and is God 🙏🏻 Christ ✝️ and King 👑

How often we are taught to seek wisdom and direction from the Lord. How often we nonetheless repeatedly find ourselves in a bad situation after relying on our own counsel.

I feel like many people who don't go to church have a fear of God. They say things like, "I'll be struck by lightning if I step foot into a church" and other such things. If their concern for their eternal existence or other reasons compel them to attend a service, I hope that, like the Gibeonites, they realize that God is holy but also loving. I also hope they encounter individuals in that church who are also loving and welcoming. The Gibeonites learned about God’s blessing for his people. May non believers continue to attend our churches when they see blessed and victorious Christians 🙏

I’m reading through Joshua a chapter per day then listen to your teaching on that chapter. Your teaching has been a real blessing. I did have another thought about the Gibeonite Deception. We have an enemy the is crafty, subtle, a deceiver and a liar. I’m not comparing the Gibeonites to the devil but there is a parallel. The testing of the devil makes us stronger. We learn more about his tactics as we grow in Christ. And God allows the testing and when we let him in, God still loves us, takes care of us by his grace and mercy. My point is Israel was made stronger by the Gibeonites. As you said they were mighty men and they would be doing a lot of work for Israel. Israel was made stronger. God bless!

Thanks David! What a great book of the Bible. Nice tie in from Joshua in OT to Jesus in NT and the pictures of God's grace throughout His Word. It's also very interesting that in most maps Gibeon has all but disappeared and has been replaced by Palestinian cities in the West Bank, which is a modern time construct. We look forward to the next chapter as we're using your study as a companion to our morning Bible reading. God Bless🙏

Great truths to be learnt in this story and to know God is a covenant keeping God and that God honors covenant. 400yrs more or less passed and God was still expecting Israel to keep their covenant with the Gibeonites. Give us reassurance that He will never go back on His covenant with us and expect us to if we do promise something to stay true to our word because we reflect His nature and Kingdom.
